A Gonohe, Japan delegation headed by the Honorable Mayor Masana Miura visited Bayombong on January 19-22, 2009. The visit coincided with the Silver Anniversary of the Bayombong-Gonohe Sisterhood. This partnership allowed the two cities to strengthen their bond through cultural exchanges. Many high school students from SMU High School and other high schools in Bayombong were given a chance to learn Japanese culture in Gonohe in the 1980's and 1990's.
The delegation visited SMUHS on January 20 at 1:30PM. The Marian Barangay Council Officers headed by Philene Calub together with the Class Presidents, Vice-Presidents and Secretaries welcomed them through their hospitable formations by waving flaglets of Japan and the Philippines. They visited the mini-museum of the High School that featured artworks of students. They were ushered also to the High School Library.
They proceeded on the High School stage for the speech of Engr. Hipolito Mamuric, the President of Bayombong Sisterhood Association. First Year students and teachers served as the audience. He shared the history and accomplishments of the Bayombong-Gonohe partnership. Honorable Miura also gave a message and inspired the students to study hard, get involved in sports so that as they mature they will continue the bond between the two cities. An interpreter guided the speeches. Dr. Samuel R. Soliven, Principal, facilitated the visit. It ended with a class picture with the delegation.
The visit took place in time for the Diamond Jubilee Year of SMUHS & Science HS. |
